FSSAI Registration & License: Latest Turnover Limits 2026

Every Food Business Operator (FBO) in India must obtain the appropriate FSSAI Registration or License based on their turnover and type of food business.
From 1 April 2026, FSSAI has revised the turnover limits as follows:
| Annual Turnover | FSSAI Category |
| Up to ₹1.5 Crore | FSSAI Registration (Basic) |
| Above ₹1.5 Crore to ₹50 Crore | FSSAI State License |
| Above ₹50 Crore | FSSAI Central License |
The earlier ₹12 lakh threshold for Basic Registration has been increased to ₹1.5 crore.
FSSAI Government Fees
The applicable government fee depends on the category and type of food business:
- Basic FSSAI Registration: ₹100 per year
- State License: ₹2,000 or ₹5,000 per year, depending on the type of business
- Central License: ₹7,500 per year
When is the State License Fee ₹2,000?
A ₹2,000 annual fee applies to certain State License categories, including specified food businesses such as eligible food retailers, restaurants, caterers and other activities, as prescribed under the FSSAI fee schedule.
When is the State License Fee ₹5,000?
A ₹5,000 annual fee applies to certain State License categories, particularly specified food manufacturing/processing units and other applicable businesses, depending on the nature and scale of the activity.
Therefore, the State License fee should be checked based on the exact Kind of Business (KoB) selected in FoSCoS.
Important Note
Turnover alone does not always determine whether a business needs Registration, State License or Central License. Certain businesses, such as food importers and other specified categories, may require a Central License irrespective of turnover.
